Last year, our chapter applied for a grant to help fund greenhouse repairs and establish a community garden. Fresh fruits and vegetables are often difficult to find, especially at an affordable price. Our goal for the garden is to provide a sustainable source of food for both our students and the community. The garden will be managed and maintained by chapter members and volunteers who are dedicated to giving back to the community. We hope that this grant and the garden will have a lasting impact, benefiting our community for years to come. The garden will include a greenhouse and raised garden beds, and all produce will be available for free—anyone is welcome to come and pick their own food! Additionally, we plan to use the garden as an educational resource for elementary students. It will teach them about plant growth, starting a garden, composting, and recognizing when food is ready to harvest. We hope the community embraces this initiative and makes full use of the garden’s resources! — Ella Hummel (Sentinel)
