In yesterday’s Johnstown Tribune Democrat newspaper, our school district was mentioned in an article regarding a state senator who is sponsoring legislation to push for private school vouchers. The article identifies Salisbury-Elk Lick School District as one of the 71 lowest performing school districts in the state, based on state testing scores. When I contacted the author of the article, he told me the criteria used to identify these schools was from a 2015-2016 list of schools, based on test scores. The Salisbury-Elk Lick School District is no longer on that list as of 2017-2018. The Tribune Democrat is to print information to clarify that it was 2015-2016 data used in the article.
Our teachers and students work very hard and we take pride in our preparation for state assessments. We take even greater pride in our mission which is to educate the whole child. On Monday, January 29, 2018 the Pennsylvania Division of Federal Programs is honoring our elementary school with a Distinguished Schools honor for our performance on last year’s state tests. We are very proud of our students and staff for this achievement. We will always continue to work hard and make strides to increase our student performance on state assessments and more importantly to develop positive characteristics in our students such as respect, responsibility, and resiliency, ensure that all our graduates are college and career ready, and inspire all our students to be lifelong learners and good citizens.
