Commencement Speaker: Ruth Yoder Wenger (Class of 65, largest class ever at SELHS) has called New York City home for more than 50 years. She and her late husband David
moved there for graduate school in 1971 after they graduated from Eastern
Mennonite College (Class of 69), Ruth with a degree in English and secondary
education. For 35 years, Ruth worked as an educator primarily in community
organizations, with people ranging in age from 2 to 92. After 9/11, she worked
with disaster interfaith organizations in NYC as an administrator and as a trainer in
emotional and spiritual care for religious leaders of all faiths responding in
disasters, where she continues as training director. In addition, she has pastored
North Bronx Mennonite Church for almost 30 years, also serving more recently as
a conference minister in NYC. Ruth loves being “Grammy” to four grandchildren ages 2-8 (two in the Bronx, one in northern California, and one in Tallahassee, FL). Her greatest joys in life, in addition to her children and grandchildren, are observing and sometimes
contributing to the growth of individuals and groups, whether as a pastor, a family
member, a friend, a spiritual director, or a trainer.

Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
