Salisbury Elks Engaging in eSports

Karl W. Maust, Esports Coach

Esports (ie. live video game competitions) are now an officially sanctioned sport. While we understand that not every caregiver takes joy in allowing their youth to spend more time playing video games, it is important to note that professional eSport Athletes make the big bucks these days with the average income being $50,000 - $75,000[1] annually. In fact, the top students who compete have the opportunity to receive scholarships that would follow them into college.

At Salisbury, we partnered with The Esports Company (TEC) who structures the season and helps provide local area schools the opportunity to partake in competition. There are 2 seasons, Fall and Spring. The fall season starts here pretty soon in September and can go up until the middle of December, should we make it to the play-offs and advance to the finals. For more general information about TEC please visit https://tecschoolesports.com/.

Students will have the opportunity to enlist in 1 of three games that Salisbury will compete in. Last season the three games were: Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch. We practice on the same evening that we compete, once a week and students engage with several other schools across the region such as Somerset, Rockwood, Johnstown, and many more.
